One of p4ges project leads celebrated in Madagascar for winning prominent conservation award

Julie Razafimanahaka, director of Madagasikara Voakajy, was awarded the Young Woman Conservation Biologist award by the Society for Conservation Biology in the International Congress of Conservation Biology at Montpellier in August.

The British Ambassador to Madagascar, Tim Smart, hosted a small event at his residence to celebrate this award. This attracted international media attention and was covered by the national TV station (TVM) and a new TV station ‘Dreaming TV’. Watch the clip here

Julie used the international platform to discuss her vision for conservation in Madagascar which includes a focus on giving young people the opportunity to experience and appreciate the value of Madagascar’s biodiversity and emphasises the value of natural ecosystems for providing ecosystem services. She also says "Conservation isn’t something which can be left just to big organisations, but everyone can get involved, even in a small way, to make a difference."
